The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) at The Casco School
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a rigorous, two-year academic programme for students aged 16–18. Recognised by leading universities around the world, the IBDP offers a broad and balanced education that prepares students not only for academic success, but for life as global citizens, critical thinkers, and compassionate leaders.
At The Casco School, the IBDP forms a key part of our Sixth Form offering. Our bilingual, international environment is an ideal setting for the IB’s inquiry-based and globally minded philosophy.
A Balanced Curriculum
The IBDP curriculum requires students to study across six subject groups:
-
Language and Literature (typically English)
-
Language Acquisition (e.g. Spanish or other modern languages)
-
Individuals and Societies (e.g. History, Economics, Global Politics)
-
Sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems)
-
Mathematics (including Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches or Applications & Interpretation)
-
The Arts (e.g. Visual Arts, Theatre)
or an additional subject from groups 1–5
In addition to these academic subjects, students complete three core components that are central to the IB’s philosophy:
-
Theory of Knowledge (TOK): Explores how we know what we know, promoting critical thinking across disciplines.
-
Extended Essay (EE): A 4,000-word independent research project on a topic of the student’s choice.
-
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): A programme of personal development through community service, creative projects, and physical activities.
